Today in school, I learned about a guy named Socrates. He was a Greek Philosopher back in ancient Greek. He had the idea that the Greek gods weren't responsible for everything. He often questioned people's knowledge by asking them questions and narrowing down what they actually knew, besides what they were just told to believe. People started getting angry that he was proving that they were wrong or incorrect. Later on, because he was blamed for disobeying the gods and ruining the minds of young people that he had taught, he was sentenced to die. When I thought about this, I began to think how unfair that is. Just because he expressed his own view of life, they killed him. And I thought that Athens, (Where Socrates lived) had democracy. In democracy, people rule themselves, and they are free to do anything. But when Socrates only just questioned people's beliefs and shared what he thought, he got killed? That doesn't sound like democracy to me. Socrates thought that some people in ancient Greece believed in the Greek Gods and goddesses because that's what they were told to believe. He was convinced that they didn't actually have the freedom to believe in what they wanted to, because they were only taught to believe in Greek gods, because that's what everyone else believed in. When I think of the world today, I'm reminded of our freedom to do or believe in anything we want to, and I will always be thankful for that freedom.

2017, Here I Come!
Hey everyone! Today I will be talking about the new year that has recently crept up upon us! 2017, has a nice ring to it. 2016... well I like how it sounds, but not exactly my favorite year. Well, probably my least favorite year. But, let's not regret the past, but enjoy the present, and look forward to the years to come! 2017 will have it's downfalls, like my sister leaving to college in the Fall, and me being an only child at home. But so far, 2017 has been great! I've joined a basketball team in my county and we've had tons of games for the past 2 months. In fact, we had 2 games yesterday and 1 earlier today! I feel kinda sporty when I'm playing! :p I've also been getting my grades back on track, I mean, they were always on track, but I'm getting much better and studying a lot more. 2017 has been great so far, and I hope it stays that way. Barely any dumb drama has been happening at school, which is awesome, because usually dumb drama is always happening in my grade, whether it is someone having a crush on someone else, dating, bad grades, etc. Who would've thought people dated at my age? Anyways, my new years resolution's seem to be working out. I have a lot of things I want to stop or change, like bad habits. But the new years resolutions that seem to be working out, are things like getting all good grades, to complain less and focus on the bright side more often, to seize opportunities, and to be thankful for everything good in my life. Oh, and also to stop eating chipotle. I know, hard to believe. Chipotle used to be probably my favorite restaurant in 2016, but after getting food poisoning from Chipotle on December 29 and 30th, (Yes, I remember the date of that horrible, horrible time) I swore to myself and to God that I wouldn't eat Chipotle for a year. And since at the time 2017 was right around the corner, I decided that 2017 would be the year I wouldn't eat Chipotle. And so far, it hasn't been hard at all! I've already managed 2 months, 2/12=1/6, so I've already managed to not eat Chipotle 1 out of 6 months! Well, enough about my Chipotle rant. I have other things to look forward to in 2017, like starting middle school in the Fall! I'm super excited/ scared, but it's a good feeling. Well, 2017, Here I Come!
Girl Power
Girl Power. I love it, I love it, I love it! I love it when boys underestimate girls, but then the girls prove the boys wrong by winning in a competition against them. It shows that girls are just the same as boys. This kind of victory actually happened to me recently. I was at lunch in school, when this guy ( Let's call him Bob) at my lunch table said, "I am faster than anyone else at this lunch table." That's when I replied, "I am pretty fast, too!" (I'm not trying to brag, I just really like to run) That's when Bob said, "Yeah right... I play tag with you at recess, and you're not very fast." That's when I got offended. I know Bob was just trying to push my buttons, but I have this quality to get really mad every time anyone insults me which is a bad quality, but hey, everyone has their faults! So, I wasn't about to let him get away with saying that. That's when I said to Bob, "Fine. I'll be it for tag this recess."(Getting ready to prove them wrong) That's when the girls at my lunch table said, "Watch out Bob, she's really fast. you don't know what you're getting yourself into!" At recess later that day, I proved to Bob that I was speedy. I started out walking out slow, but everyone knew I was getting ready to pounce! That's when I started to run at top speed and didn't stop. Up the stairs, down the slides, around the playground, everywhere. And, you should've seen the look on Bob's face. Every time I started to walk, he knew that at any second I could start running again at top speed. And when I did, he would scream like a girl and have a terrified look. To me, that was a really girl power moment, and every girl deserves to have that moment. Go girl power!!
